Ever wondered about what happens on a newborn photoshoot?

It is normal to have lots of questions about what will happen on your newborn photoshoot with Light Of My Life Photography. So I have put together a list of some of the most common questions that I tend to get asked on a regular basis.

WHEN SHOULD I BOOK MY NEWBORN PHOTOSHOOT?

Due to the nature of newborn shoots I only book in a limited number each month – so it is best to be prepared & book your photoshoot as early as you are comfortable. Anytime after your 20 week scan is the perfect time. I use your due date as a guide and then once your baby arrives – it is at this point that the actual photoshoot date is confirmed between us.

HOW SHOULD I BOOK MY NEWBORN PHOTOSHOOT?

Booking couldn’t be anymore simpler simply get in touch via our contact form to start the process or simple click here.

HOW LONG DO NEWBORN SESSIONS LAST & WHEN IS THE STUDIO?

Newborn sessions will be held in my studio and will last 1-2 hours. Some babies sleep all the way through and so without interruption it is easy to complete the session in a hour. However, this is not always the way and it’s usual for baby to need a feed/change/cuddle during the session. I work with your baby & if we need longer than 2 hours, it is not an issue. Generally I will photograph your baby at my studio, ideally within the first 14 days after birth. This is when they are at their squishiest and curliest. Again, if you have had a difficult birth, it’s not an issue. We can still get gorgeous newborn images in the following weeks.

WHAT IF MY NEWBORN BABY IS LATE/EARLY?

Most babies don’t arrive on their due date and I certainly won’t expect them to! Just contact me a few days after birth. I don’t tend to chase to see if baby has arrived. I don’t think you want me – along with everyone else – asking “are they here yet?”. So I always leave that part of the communicate to you.

WHAT IF MY NEWBORN BABY WON’T SETTLE?

In my experience, most babies take a while to settle and that is fine and completely normal. Most will sleep a bit, be awake for a bit, feed a bit. I have a few tricks to try and help them settle. It is important to know that I understand that my job isn’t to soothe your baby when they clearly need you. If baby obviously needs feeding or needs the reassuring sound of your voice or smell then I will ask for you to take them. The studio is warm to keep your baby snug and so this really helps. Also, clients will love the white noise that I use in the session.

ARE SIBLINGS WELCOME ON A NEWBORN PHOTOSHOOT?

Absolutely, it is a must that brothers and sisters get involve. It is a great opportunity to get a few family images and some sibling images aswell. I also love to photograph individual portraits of you children.

Hopefully this answers all the key questions that you must have about what happens on a newborn photoshoot. If you still have some questions then please get in contact. I would be happy to help!
